My Medifast Diet Diary-Week 2

From this point on I’m going to write about my experiences with Medifast, but I am not going to list every meal that I eat. Click here if you would like to read my week 1 diary where I listed every meal in detail. As I go forward, I probably won’t have an entry for every single day, because on some days not a whole lot happens. I’m going to focus now on how I feel, the temptations I face, and the experiences I go through on Medifast.

2/16/09 Medifast Diet Day 8

I am really happy today! I had an awesome first week weigh-in. Click here to read about how much weight I lost during my first week on Medifast. Today I met a friend of mine for lunch. Before I left I had a bowl of Medifast Chicken Noodle Soup. When I went to lunch I had some black coffee and water. It was easy.

2/17/09 Medifast Diet Day 9

I was busy today, and actually had only eaten one meal by the time this afternoon had rolled around. I am eating now mostly for fuel, not to satisfy hunger. My appetite is dulled big-time. I would say my appetite is 25% of what it was just 9 days ago. Don’t get me wrong-the mental desire to enjoy a loaded pizza or a bunch of hot wings and beer is still there. I don’t know that those desires will ever go away, and this is only day 9. It’s not like I’ve won the weight loss battle yet. But, it’s much easier to fight off the food fantasies with a dulled appetite.

2/18/09 Medifast Diet Day 10

I can’t believe it’s day 10 already. My clothes feel comfortable right now. I can’t wait to be able to fit in some smaller jeans. I have a pretty nice wardrobe that is waiting on me to lose weight. I went to Hooter’s tonight-as you may know Wednesday is all you can eat wing night at Hooter’s. For me it was all you can drink iced tea night, because that’s all I consumed. I still like getting out even if I’m not indulging in the wings and beer.

2/18/09 Medifast Diet Day 11

My big belly feels a little smaller today. I can’t see a difference in the mirror yet -I mean it still looks huge, but it feels just a little bit smaller. I can’t wait to fit into some smaller clothes. At other times in my life when I have dieted successfully, I remember being able to visually notice at least a slight difference in my appearance at the 2 week point. I guess we’ll find out Monday how things go this time around.

2/18/09 Medifast Diet Day 14


I can’t believe that day 14 is here! I’ve made it through two consecutive weekends without the two items that usually dominate my weekend menu: pizza and beer. I’m excited about tomorrow’s weigh-in. As my body adjusts to this way of eating, I’m sure that I won’t be able to duplicate my week-one weight loss, but I am just hoping to continue losing weight.

During the past two weeks I have stared down pizza, hot wings, Girl Scout cookies, hamburgers, and beer. Temptation is all around me. It’s around all of us. But I keep going back to the fact that if I stick with this, I will never have to go through it again. I will never have to say “I’m starting my diet on Monday.” I will never again have another day 1, day 2, or day 14.

Medifast Week 1-I Lost 19 Pounds!

For the month of January 2009 I had good days and bad days, but I didn't eat healthy enough to lose any significant weight. I decided to get back to the Medifast 5 and 1 plan. I need the structure that the plan offers. I kept a diary of everything I ate this past week. Click here to read it. It has been one week since I began the Medifast 5 and 1 plan.

Last Monday February 9th, 2009 I weighed 388 pounds. I was wearing size 56 jeans.

Today, Monday February 16th, 2009 I weigh 369 pounds! I lost 19 pounds in a week! I also lost 4.9% of my body weight!

I feel great. I have plenty of energy, and I plan to once and for all lose the weight.

My Medifast Diet Diary

I decided that I need the structure that Medifast offers if I am ever going to lose weight once and for all. It was time to get back to the Medifast 5 and 1 plan. I have now been on the Medifast plan for 7 days. The following is a diary of everything I ate for the past 7 days along with some of my thoughts:

2/9/09 Medifast Day 1
Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast: Medifast Banana Pudding

Snack: Medifast Vanilla Pudding

Lunch: Medifast Cappuccino

Snack: Medifast Chai Latte

Dinner: 3 eggs, 2 cups spinach

Snack: Medifast Chocolate Bar

I felt pretty good today-not really hungry in between meals. The food fantasies are there, however. I was thinking about Philly cheese steaks and buckets of chicken wings. I didn’t give in to the fantasies. I drank plenty of water throughout the day. I also drank black coffee in the morning and afternoon. Today was a great start for my weight loss goals. I have made it through day 1, and that is always the hardest day to get through. It feels good to know that I am on the way to losing the weight that I need to lose.

2/10/09 Medifast Day 2
Here is today’s Medifast menu:

Breakfast: Medifast Scrambled Eggs

Snack: Medifast Chicken Noodle Soup

Lunch: Medifast Orange Crème Shake

Snack: Medifast Cream of Tomato Soup

Snack: Medifast Lemon Bar

Dinner: Approximately 7 ounces chicken (boiled) and 2 cups broccoli

I wasn’t really hungry today. I drank a ton of water. I have no desire to mess up. As a matter of fact, I’m watching the Biggest Loser as I write this. There’s no way I’m going to screw up while I’m watching The Biggest Loser.



2/11/09 Medifast Day 3

One of the side effects of my being overweight has been I often have pain in my feet, sometimes to the point that I can barely walk. Lately, I’ve felt pain in the right knee as well. Yesterday, I was perfectly fine. Today, I woke up with severe pain shooting through my left ankle to my heel. I have been limping around today. The thing is, I didn’t do anything particularly strenuous yesterday, yet today I can barely walk. I blame this stuff 100% on my being overweight. This is a perfect example why I need to stay on the Medifast program. Here is today’s Medifast menu.

Breakfast: Medifast Maple & Brown Sugar Oatmeal

Lunch: Medifast Chicken Noodle Soup

Snack: Medifast Tropical Punch

Snack: Medifast Chai Latte

Dinner: 3 cups spinach, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Snack: Medifast Chocolate Pudding

Today took an interesting turn. I went to both Hacienda Mexican Restaurant and Hooter’s tonight, and I didn’t eat a thing! In the early evening I met my mom, aunt, and cousins at Hacienda (it was my aunt’s birthday). I had a couple unsweetened iced teas and no food. I went home and had dinner. Then I went to Hooter’s with my buddy Steve and had a couple more iced teas. I came home and had some Medifast Chocolate Pudding. So I still had a good time and I am not bloated, stuffed, or buzzed.

2/12/09 Medifast Day 4

I feel pretty good today. My jeans feel a little bit looser on me. They’re not falling to the floor yet, but I feel a little bit more comfortable in my own skin. Here is today’s Medifast menu:

Breakfast: Medifast Scrambled Eggs

Snack: Medifast Banana Pudding

Lunch: Medifast Cream of Tomato Soup

Snack: Medifast Chicken Noodle Soup

Dinner: Approximately 5-6 ounces chicken (boiled), 2 cups broccoli with 1/2 cup shredded
cheddar cheese

Snack: Medifast Chocolate Pudding

I was thinking this afternoon, that this is day 4. If I just stick with this I never have to start over. I never have to say “I’m starting my diet tomorrow.” I will never again have to go through a day 1, or day 2, or day 3. To me, that way of thinking is a powerful motivator.

2/13/09 Medifast Day 5

I feel really good today. You know how you feel when you eat healthier for a couple days in a row? That’s how I feel today. I feel lighter. Here is today’s Medifast menu:

Breakfast: Medifast Chai Latte

Snack: Medifast Vanilla Pudding

Lunch: Medifast French Vanilla Shake

Snack: Medifast Tropical Punch

Snack: Medifast Chocolate Bar

Dinner: Approximately 7 ounces chicken(boiled), 2 cups spinach with 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

I did some vacuuming today. Medifast advises waiting a few weeks before beginning to exercise. I am going to put down my jump rope for a little while and just stay busy: sweep and mop the floors, do some dusting, and just keep moving. I really don’t feel hungry anymore. The mental desire to eat is there, but it isn’t driven by hunger anymore.

I dealt with a lot of temptation today, but it was pretty easy. At various locations earlier tonight, I was offered Girl Scout Cookies, hamburgers, and pizza. I said no to all. I even got a comment about how great my willpower is.

2/14/09 Medifast Day 6

Happy Valentine’s Day! Here is today’s Medifast menu:

Breakfast: Medifast Scrambled Eggs

Snack: Medifast Cappuccino

Lunch: 3 cups spinach with 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Snack: Medifast Banana Creme Shake

Snack: Medifast Banana Crème Shake

Snack: Medifast Lemon Bar

I had a Diet Coke tonight. It’s the first diet soda that I’ve had all week. Although I am not going to completely eliminate it, I have committed to drinking less diet soda. I like drinking unsweetened black coffee, unsweetened iced tea, and water. I noticed a long time ago that I could eliminate cream and/or sugar from coffee and tea and still enjoy them. Now they actually taste better to me unsweetened.

2/15/09 Medifast Day 7

I’m happy to report that I am now on day 7. I feel really good. I am looking forward to weighing-in tomorrow and seeing how much weight I have lost. Here is today’s Medifast menu:

Snack: Medifast Chocolate Pudding
